Positive Women Network of Rajasthan (PWNR+) was established in 2005 by a small group of women who are widows of men expired due to HIV/AIDS. HIV infected women came together after being humiliated and thrown out of their in-laws houses because of their HIV+ status. Other women who felt neglected in the male dominated organizations joined hands and gave strength to the network. Realizing the common issues and needs, women in other districts also started to have gatherings in ART and ICTC Centers. Staff members and volunteers of Positive Women Network of Rajasthan help these women to seek support from the government and from the local community. Currently there are two support and care projects in Jaipur and in Ganganagar that provide care and support to HIV infected population.
Keeping in mind the harsh living conditions of HIV orphans in the state, Positive Women Network of Rajasthan established an orphanage "Aashray Care Home" in 2006. Orphanage is one of the main projects of PWNR+.
When Aashray Care Home was established children living with HIV and AIDS could not be found in our National Flagship Programs designed for child survival and protection. Attitudes towards people affected by HIV are slowly changing thanks to the work done by the PWNR+.
